IUCN key messages for UNOC3

Building on the two previous UN Ocean Conferences in 2017 and 2022, UNOC3 will convene under the theme “Accelerating action and mobilizing all actors to conserve and sustainably use the ocean”. It is crucial that the conference results in actionable commitments to strengthen implementation and increase funding of SDG 14, in concrete action to preserve the coastal and marine environment for future generations, and in ensuring sustainable and inclusive governance.

IUCN’s key messages for the conference will revolve around the concept of One Ocean and be articulated in three main areas: One Ocean Science, One Ocean Governance, and One Ocean Finance. At UNOC3, IUCN will advocate for:

Science-based policy for our ocean
Robust governance of our one ocean
Mobilizing resources for our one ocean
