"Harmony with nature and sustainable development" is the theme of 2025's International Day for Biodiversity. This theme echoes IUCN's mission — to safeguard ecosystems, empower communities and support our members through impactful action.  IUCN Med echoes this goal across the Mediterranean through its work, protecting biodiversity while supporting sustainable livelihoods.

2024 has been an intense year for IUCN Med, marked by numerous activities and achievements made possible largely through the generous support of our core donors and a successful fundraising strategy developed at the Euro-Mediterranean level. The visit of Teresa
Ribera, the Vice-President and Minister for Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO) to IUCN Med has renewed the commitment of the Spanish government to support IUCN’s work in the Mediterranean and raise the level of collaboration to new areas and themes.

2025 will be a key year for IUCN, as the World Conservation Congress will take place in Abu Dhabi from 9 to 15 October, an event that will culminate with the adoption of the 20-year Strategic Vision and the new IUCN programme 2026-2029. This programme will inform the organisation’s new global and regional priorities and help guide its operations with our Members, Commissions and donors.

We invite you to read our 2024 report and look forward to strengthening our work together. Thank you for your support.
