IUCN WCPA Technical Note No. 22: Connectivity in the Context of the BBNJ Agreement
Marine connectivity is critical for the design of effective and comprehensive area-based management tools (ABMTs) under the BBNJ Agreement, including the establishment of ecologically representative networks of marine protected areas (MPAs) (Lausche et al., 2021).
This technical note outlines key principles, knowledge gaps, and recommendations for integrating various forms of ecological connectivity into the implementation of the BBNJ Agreement.
